Musical instrument insurance FAQs

Is musical instrument insurance worth it?

That all depends on who you are, what instruments or equipment you own, and how often you play. Insurance for musical equipment is certainly recommended if you’re a professional musician whose livelihood depends on your instruments or gear.

Even for amateurs and hobbyists, musical equipment insurance provides valuable cover for expensive or cherished instruments. If you love what you do or what you play with, we’d argue that’s well worth protecting.

What's covered by music equipment insurance?

Our musical instrument insurance policies cover many of the core risks associated with musicians and equipment, wherever you are in the world. The main ones are fire, flood, and accidental damage, as well as loss and theft. You can also add Unattended Vehicle cover, Climatic Conditions cover and more to your policy if you so wish.

For more information and wording on our cover, read our policy documents here.

How much does musical instrument insurance cost?

Different musical equipment insurance companies will have their own rates but our quotes are based on a few key factors. These usually include:

  • The number of instruments, items, equipment, and accessories you want to insure
  • The value of your items
  • Any no-claims discount you’ve accrued

Can I get short-term or temporary musical instrument insurance?

Yes, we offer temporary cover for instruments on loan worth up to £50,000. If you’re already a policyholder, you may add these items for up to 60 days for free. This is useful if you’re trying before you buy or renting your instruments to others.

Who can get music instrument insurance?

Anyone can! Whether you’re a professional musician, teacher, collector, dealer, or simply a hobbyist, our musical instrument coverage is there for anyone who wishes to play on with the peace of mind that comes with insurance.

Are musical instruments covered by contents insurance?

Home insurance policies usually aren’t flexible enough to give your instruments and equipment the cover they deserve. Most have a set limit per item within your household and a set limit for items you can take out of the household, as well as often carrying a sizeable excess.

If you rely on home insurance alone, you may be at risk of losing out if anything happens to your musical instrument. At Lark Music, we understand the importance of protecting your prized possessions – that’s why we offer a bespoke personal service to ensure you have the perfect protection in place for your instruments.
