New Partnership with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

By Lark Music
Four musicians rehearse on stage with a trombone, cello, and percussion instruments in a concert hall setting.

The words Liverpool, Community and Music go hand in hand and Lark Music is proud to enter a new partnership with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to support their Music and Health programme, which is the longest-running and broadest-reaching project of its kind.

This incredible programme, set up in 2008, works in partnership with the NHS to improve the health and wellbeing of 22,500 individuals across Liverpool City Region through music. To commemorate 15 years of this programme in October 2023, Liverpool Philharmonic produced this video.

Lark Music will sponsor the free Music Mondays sessions that form an important part of this programme, designed to combat low mood and isolation by fostering a relaxed and interactive environment. In 2023/24, referrals to Music Mondays increased, highlighting its importance in the community. Through our partnership with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, our sponsorship of Music Mondays will support the orchestra to deliver these sessions, bringing significant benefits to participants – including mood enhancement, stronger social connections, and increased confidence in attending events.

This echoes the passions, and experience, of the Lark Music team who have personal experience of the power of music, and how it can support health and wellbeing.

The testimonials below illustrate the impact these sessions have:

“It’s the best medicine you could ever have.”

“How interesting they are and inspiring, the room itself where the sessions take place, it’s a lovely atmosphere. I’m not a musician myself and the fact that it doesn’t matter, and I can still take part, is brilliant.”

“Weekends are somewhat down for me and Mondays worse but coming to the music lessons really is wonderful. I learn, I meet all sorts of people, I relax and listen to the music and the talks on instruments, it’s fab.”

“Great session… very informative… beautiful music… superb presentation … big thank you!”

Our Partnerships Executive, Brian Hillstead, has also been fortunate to attend a number of sessions and see first-hand how they work:

‘As a musician I understood the elevating power of music, but to see how this is applied in the setting of Music Mondays has been eye-opening and inspiring to witness. The sessions have been so carefully considered and you can palpably sense a positivity the moment you arrive. It’s been moving to see the benefit this has on those attending and the reactions, engagement and responses of everyone attending and involved in these sessions’

In 2023/24, Liverpool Philharmonic expanded its network of link workers, with social prescribing referrals now accounting for a quarter of Music Mondays sessions. With valuable insight from individuals that attend Music Mondays, it has been widely demonstrated how important the programme is to its communities and the positive impact it has on their health and wellbeing.
