Watch Now: Debut Sounds - LPO Young Composers in Concert

At Lark Music, we’re  proud to support the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s (LPO) Young Composers Programme – an initiative that gives emerging composers the chance to  be guided by world-class mentors and create bold new works,  premiered by LPO musicians.

Earlier this summer, the 2024/25 cohort of Young Composers unveiled their new works at Debut Sounds: Memory Palace, a concert at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. This incredible evening marked the culmination of months of creativity, collaboration, and rehearsal, all built around the theme of memory.

Now, thanks to the LPO, you can watch these extraordinary premieres in full along with descriptions from each of the composers. This gives you a unique insight to their approach, inspirations and the music they have created, as well as the full orchestral performance of all the compositions.

Meet the composers & explore their works

Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, conductor, and arts leader Tania León has been the LPO’s Composer-in-Residence for the 2024/25 season, guiding the Young Composers through workshops, rehearsals, and creative reflection under the theme of memory.

Tania’s introduction to the composers and their works includes comments from the Southbank Centre’s New Poets Collective, whose own new works complemented the musical compositions. This set the tone for this wonderful playlist, which celebrates the power of new voices and the importance of artistic risk-taking.

Each piece reflects a different response to the idea of memory, and colleagues from Lark Music were honoured to be there to support the LPO, the Young Composers and the New Poets Collective. We’re equally  excited to share this playlist with you

The Young Composers Programme is about more than a single performance. It’s a space where new voices are nurtured, where risk-taking is encouraged, and where the next generation of orchestral composers find their footing. We’re excited to see where  these hard working and talented composers go next as they explore the next steps in their musical journeys.
